Breastfeeding woes....
The internet has a down fall - when you have times on your hands you tend to surf the web and read. Well as usual I am up and pumping every 3 hours with time on my hands has the wosh wosh of the pump drones on - so I surf the web!
I came across some articles about breastfeeding and those who feed their babies breast milk but excursively pump - which has turned into me! Yes I figured I would breastfeed my babies and thats about all the thought I gave to it until reality checked in.
The twins came a few weeks early at 34 weeks so they both had to spend time in the NICU. Now i was told to start pumping right away to help bring in my milk - which I did. Once my milk had come in Is at down with a lactation specialist to work on getting J to latch on (C had some other medical issues that wouldnt allow to work with him just yet). Well it didn't go so well. They told me and assured me it was nothing I did or didn't do but the fact that they were preemies hindered their ability to latch, such and swallow like a full term baby. So determined not to get discourged a pumping I went so they would get my breast milk.
However as time went on and both boys were discharged from the hospital I was still pumping - I did try having them latch on with the help of a sheild but it just wasnt going well. J would latch for a min or two and then quit. So I made up my mind and I said I wasn't going to try any more and to pump exclusivley.
This is where the surfing came in that made me mad- I came across acrticles about exclusively pumping and how it was ok and so on - but the comments people made about how HORRIBLE that was or how WRONG etc etc etc
My thoughts (besides to me getting made and sense of of doing wrong hitting me) was do these people going on and on about how pumping exclusively is bad have complications or situations that made actual breast feeding hard- I think not. I bet most of them had their babies around their due date, didn't have twins, and didn't get discharged from the hospital without one of your babies coming home with you! THEY DON"T UNDERSTAND OR GET IT!
One of the hardest things I had to deal with when my boys were born was sitting in my room at night trying to sleep and my husband and I would notice how quiet it was and hear every other baby cry in the middle of the night - and here we were in an empty room just the 2 of us because the boys were in the NICU. Try that one on for size you critisizing women out there and see how that will make you feel. And on top of that not being able to go visit your babies for 24 hours after they were born because you are hooked up to a million tubes and beeping things. Yeah I saw J for like 5 mins a few hours after they were born but I was sooooo looped out from be completly put all the way under do to the ergency of my c section they didn't have time to do anything but put me all the way under - that I barely remember holding him and peering a C in some plastic box (thats all I understood at that moment).
So to these women out there that judge and go on and on about what is right or wrong - take a moment and walk in my shoes or someone else's shoes and maybe you wont be so judgmental. And honestly there are way worse cases than my delivery!

Twins update 6/24
The boys had their 1 month Dr appointment today... and YES it is hard to believe they turned 1 month old on the 21st!
My boys are getting so big: Jacob is 8 lbs 1.8 oz and 20.5 inches- Caleb is 6 lbs 4.2 oz and 19 3/4 inches. It is hard to believe that at birth Jacob was 5 lbs 2/6 oz and 17 in and Caleb was 4 lbs 3/6 oz and 17 in.
Dr said they are doing so well they don't need to go back for another month. However, they need to stay on preemie formula for 1 more month.
The boys have been getting lots of love between friends and family coming to visit.
The boys and I headed to Columbia the other day to get together with some other new multiples moms for "coffee" - it was nice to compare notes and asked some more seasoned new moms some questions.
Andy had a nice night out last night with Adam at the U2 concert. I am having my night out next week when I get to do my media thing and try out a new restaurant that just opened!
We took some formal pictures of the boys but need to edit them and then we will get them up on www.lemmophoto.com and then I am sending out our formal birth announcements.

The Twins are 4 weeks old!
Time has flown by - I can't believe 4 weeks ago today my water broke and the boys arrives at 34 weeks! We made it through a C-section, NICU and all! A blessing no matter how many ups and downs it has!
I may lack in the sleep department and I may gets frazzled and stressed but I am doing my best to give it all I got and not let it get the best of me. Yes two babies is a hand full and if you have only been one baby you could never understand how dealing with two babies is!
Support from family and friends is the best gift ever - even when I say there is nothing you can do (just find something around the house that needs done - unload dishwasher, throw in a load of wash or you can even give the gift of a meal which takes a HUGE load off)!
So a typical day with the Twins...
So I started to think about (or as much as my brain would allow)...

- 6 am: feed and change - then I/we try to go back to sleep
- 9 am: feed and change - up and gotta go wash bottles
- 12 pm: feed and change - find something for myself to eat
- 3 pm: feed and change - think about dinner that we need to eat between 4-5
- 6 pm: feed and change - wash more bottles and get 8 bottles together for the night time feedings
- 9 pm: feed and change - we turn the lights out ASAP and go to bed ourselves
- 12 am: feed and change - hope they go to sleep right away so that we can
- 3 am: feed and change - what time is it? Everything is blurring together
- 6 am : start all over again
So I started to think about (or as much as my brain would allow)...
- We use at least 16 diapers a day
- Dirty 16 bottles in 24 hours
- I pump 16 times a day for 10-30 mins
- During the night I sleep in 1-2 hour stints
- Run the dishwasher 2-4 times a day with bottles in it and sometimes nothing else
- Was at least one load a wash a day
- Fill the diaper pail up in about 1.5 days maybe 2 days
- Drink enough water that I seriously think I will burst or float away
- Shower when I can (which is not every day)
- Live in my PJs if I am not leaving the house
- Sometimes forget what day it is
- Welcome visitors who are willing to help!
- Wish I won the lottery so I could have a personal chef and house cleaner
- Find that the internet is my sense of sanity

Lemmo Twins Updates from the 1st week of life
5/22
Well we are proud to announce that the Lemmo Twins are here (a tad early). I woke up to use the restroom at 5:30 this morning and when I was leaving the bathroom my water broke. I had no contractions or pain. We got to the hospital by 6 and as they were taking my vitals and checking me they discover that Baby A who was breech had his feet coming down the delivery canal - so the SWAT team of Labor/Delivery kicked in and off for a c section I went. They had to completely knock me out because there was no time for any other forms of pain blocker to kick in. Andy got to be in the room while they were born - both boys were out of me by 6:30 - so I think I had the easiest, quickest and painless delivery in the world.
Both boys are in the NICU and were under heat for part of the day. Baby B had oxygen for a while but is off it. Both boys were taken out of heat and placed in cribs. However Baby B had to go back under heat and will be there all night. Overall both are doing good.
I am here till Wednesday and we are not sure if they will get to go home with us on Wednesday or not

Hard to believe the boys are 2 days already!!! Jacob and Caleb are progressing along. They are both eating now and in fact Jacob did a little breast feeding today. Caleb is still having problem with eating and it take him a long time to eat as much as he needs to - he gets tired and falls asleep. The nurses are a bit better with it than Andy and I. He is always falling asleep with us. BIG NEWS - they are both off the IVs. We were there and there was talk of them coming off - we came back about a hour or so later and POOF they were gone.
Caleb is still in the incubator but they believe that he will be in a crib tomorrow. Caleb still has a few times his heart rate drops and the alarm goes off but it pump right back up- he does it while in a deep sleep. They said they may given him some caffeine and that will help.
There is talk that Jacob may go home with me on Wednesday but it isnt confirmed or anything. They say at the most they think they will have to stay 2 weeks but that more for Caleb than Jacob. They say for being 34 weeks they are doing good- they have seen worse.
Me- I am sore but slowly getting better. I walked a lot today which helps from getting stiff but it makes my muscles sore. Andy is surving - he has started feeding and changing diapers LOL
Tomorrow we get to help with bath time!!!!! I will say the boys being in the NICU has its pros and cons but you really get a lot of support and help from the nurses in there! We can even get a free sleeping room up there when I am discharged but we only live 10 min away so we wont be staying in it.

Well today was a big day.... Jacob was released from the NICU! He is now in my room for the night and gets to go home with me tomorrow!!!!! He did his car seat test and passed with flying colors! So now is when the surreal becomes real!!!
Caleb is still make baby steps towards progression but it is getting there. The took him out of the incubator today and is now in a crib - holding his temp well. However his feeding is not moving along as much as we hoped. He now has a feeding tube. They bottle feed him and encourage him to eat that way and get in as much as they can and whatever he doesnt finish gets pt in his feeding tube. The main problem with his feeding is that he gets tired quickly and falls asleep so he cant use the bottle. Sometimes he only takes in a little with the bottle and sometimes more. He did however today pass his hearing test so that is a positive. They are still thinking he will need a week or two in the NICU.
Jacob and myself will be going home tomorrow- Andy and I will be come over to the hospital every day until Caleb is released. We just have to work out going since Jacob has to stay at home- thank goodness my mom is here for a while to help out with that.

Well today was the day I got to go home with Jacob. We didn't get home until about 6:00 pm. GBMC was busy with babies the last days we were there. Jacob did perfectly well in the car - in fact he slept all the way home. Once home Jacob and Edgar met and so far so good - I don't think Edgar knows what to think of him yet.
The night started out rough once we went to bed getting Jacob to stay asleep and quiet. I think he just needs to get adjusted to the new surroundings and so forth. He finally went to sleep and stayed asleep around 1:00 (that is why I am writing this email in the middle of the night - its just about time to wake him up to feed). Poor Edgar looked very frustrated with not being able to get to sleep soundly like normal with Jacob being fussy.
Yesterday Caleb had to go under the Bili Light for his jaundice. His feeding had a few high moments when he took the entire bottle but then a few low moments. You can compare being under the Bili Light to like being out in the sun ALL DAY and how it just in the makes you sleepy so he wasn't finishing them. So just keep sending postive thoughts to Caleb so that we can bring him home soon.

Well Jacob's first full day home was a busy one! Grandparents Laczkowski watched him so that Andy and I could go over to visit Caleb in the NICU. Then Jacob had his first Pediatric appointment today. He hadn't lost any more weight which is good- the Dr feels he is done with the loosing weight part (he was 4 lbs 15 oz both at discharge yesterday and today at Dr). he is still a little yellow from the jaundice. He is heading back next week for a weight check and progression check.
Caleb's bili levels went down since yesterday but they are still keeping him under the light. He is still having issues with eating. I feed him while there today and he didn't eat much from the bottle.
We made it through the night last night with some bumps along the way but survived. Tonight should run more smoothly- fingers crossed.
Other than that not much else to report unless you want to know about diaper changes and spit up LOL
We got some pictures today that I hope to get out to share either tonight or tomorrow- we may be moving picture over to www.lemmophoto.com ( we will let you know when and the login info to view them)

It was hard to believe that at 6:30 and 6:31 this morning the boys were a week old!!!!
Today was a busy day for Andy and I...
We went to visit Caleb and took his car seat in so he could do his car seat test because we were told Friday night he may come home Sunday. Well it was confirmed today that he will be coming home Sunday. I fed him today his bottle- his min amount is 30 and they put 35 in and I got him to eat it ALL!
After the NICU we ran around to walmart and costco looking for a few cheap preemie outfits for Caleb to wear and get some preemie diapers (the only size we did not have from Andy's Amazon escapade).
Jacob is doing well at home. Between myself, Andy and my Mom he gets lots of love and care. Andy and I are extremely thankful that my mother is able to be here because who knows how we would have been able to visit Caleb in the NICU if she wasn't (plus for all her other help).
We have no idea what time we get to take Caleb home - it all depends on his circumcision. He was supposed to have it today but the Dr got busy with other delivers, etc.
One of my coworkers and her daughter came to visit today and brought us a freezer meal - THANK YOU Sandi!!!!

It was a LONG LONG LONG day of waiting to bring Caleb home - the hospital has been so busy with deliveries that getting the Dr to Caleb took all day! So at last we were told we could come to pick him up - which was way later than expected but we got home by 9:30 pm. Couldn't get pictures on Caleb in the car riding home because it was dark and the flash always disturbs them (next time he is him his seat I will get one)
Jacob did his first video interview today with his Grandfather Jim, his GREAT Grandfather and his Great Uncle (gotta love Skype!). Jacob had his first experience of Baltimore heat and humidity - and its just gonna be worse tomorrow and Tuesday because there is a heat advisory.

Both boys are now eating from a bottle. Caleb is still in the incubator because he cant hold his temp and breathing on the fast side a little bit. Jacob is in a crib and can hold his temp just fine.
We went up 3 times to NICU today. We have been able to feed Jacob, help with some of his vitals and change his diapers.
In order to go home they have to be off IVs, hold body temp, gain weight, etc plus pass infant car seat test. We were told they could leave in about 1-2 weeks depending on development and growth. So right now we don't think anyone will be leaving when I am discharged on Wednesday - the only who has a lil chance is Jacob.
Jacob has light brown hair as of now and Caleb has strawberry blonde hair.
As for me I am recovering slowly but well. No more tubes, IVs, etc. In pain and my body is stiff.

As for me I am recovering slowly but well. No more tubes, IVs, etc. In pain and my body is stiff.

The Lemmo Twins Are HERE!
Well we are proud to announce that the Lemmo Twins are here (a tad early- 5/21/11 at 34 weeks). I woke up to use the restroom at 5:30 Saturday morning and when I was leaving the bathroom my water broke. I had no contractions or pain. We got to the hospital by 6 and as they were taking my vitals and checking me they discover that Baby A who was breech had his feet coming down the delivery canal - so the SWAT team of Labor/Delivery kicked in and off for a c section I went. They had to completely knock me out because there was no time for any other forms of pain blocker to kick in. Andy got to be in the room while they were born - both boys were out of me by 6:30 - so I think I had the easiest, quickest and painless delivery in the world.
Both boys are in the NICU and were under heat for part of the day. Baby B had oxygen for a while but is off it. Both boys were taken out of heat and placed in cribs. However Baby B had to go back under heat and will be there all night. Overall both are doing good.
I only got to hold Baby A and see them real quick after the surgery - which I don't recall really because of all the meds. I am looking forward to going to the NICU this morning to see them since they unplugged me from everything and was able to get out of bed around 4 am this morning.
I am here till Wednesday and we are not sure if they will get to go home with us on Wednesday or not
We will anouce the names and give weights, size, etc later today.
